Nordea Private Banking 8mR Worlds 2013

Nordea Private Banking is the main sponsor of the World Championship race of 8mR yachts to be organised in Helsinki from 27 July to 3 August 2013. The race will be organised by HSS Helsingfors Segelsällskap and FEMA - The Finnish 8 Metre Association.

Eight Metre boats (or "Eights") are classic racing yachts whose structure and size are based on the International Rule for Measurement of Yachts which entered into force in 1907. The "eight metre" in the class name does not refer to the length of the boat but is a rating in the mathematical measurement formula of the international design rule. 8mR boats are usually about 14 - 16 metres long and weigh 8 - 10 tons. "R" means that the boat is classified and registered in accordance with the requirements by Lloyd's. There are both classic and modern 8mR boats. Modern boats have six crew members and classic ones seven.

Today there is one of the world's largest Eight fleets - 11 boats - in Finland. HSS's port in Liuskasaari will be the base for the World Championship race. His Majesty King Harald V of Norway will feature among the participants of the race.
